CHASE MANHATTAN PLANS FREE ON-LINE BANKING

By CBR Staff Writer

Chase Manhattan Bank, in a bid to cut costs, will be offering a free on-line banking service, which is cheaper to run than bank teller services. It also hopes to lure current online customers, who tend to maintain higher balances and require more banking services, away from the competition; it is offering free, Windows-based software to replace the 10-year old, MS-DOS-based Excel package it use to have.
