Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Pte Ltd, the Singapore foundry backed by National Semiconductor Corp and Sierra Semiconductor Corp, is to begin fabricating in volume in its new 0.6 micron process from the first quarter of 1994. The company currently uses a 0.8 micron process and the new technology will enable designers to shrink existing 0.8 micron designs 44% in die size, improving yield and lowering die cost. Chartered Semiconductor is a foundry-only company that employs over 600 worldwide, and has offices in Singapore, Taiwan and San Jose.
