CHAPTER AND VERSE ON THE SABLE FAMILY OF MULTIPROCESSOR SERVERS DEC PLANS TO LAUNCH IN APRIL

By CBR Staff Writer

Our sister publication ClieNT Server News has been following the ins and outs of Digital Equipment Corp’s forthcoming Alpha AXP 64-bit RISC-based server, code named Sable, for months now and says that when the machine is announced in April, it will come in three versions, which are code-named Sable, SuperSable and DemiSable. Sable’s a maximum four-way symmetric multiprocessing machine, based on the 21064 chip with a Peripheral Component Interconnect bus, which DEC previewed at Comdex in a two-way configuration. Demi is a cost-optimised two-CPU configuration and Super is a more robust rack-mounted version of the original.
