Cerner deploys Oracle Enterprise Manager

Oracle Enterprise Manager’s IT management capabilities supports Cerner Skybox public cloud offerings

By CBR Staff Writer

Strategic health care company Cerner has implemented Oracle Enterprise Manager to support managed services dedicated to the optimisation of business processes for health care organisations.

With the introduction of cloud-based services supported by Oracle Enterprise Manager, Cerner has reduced its capital investments by $9.5m while offering its clients a new suite of on-demand infrastructure and software including messaging, storage and virtual desktop capabilities.

Oracle said the Enterprise Manager’s IT management capabilities support the new Cerner Skybox public cloud offerings that include Cerner’s Oracle Database powered Skybox DB Central offering.

Cerner can monitor and manage the experience of its clients, their business transactions and application interactions from one management console with the help of Oracle Enterprise Manager’s simplified management environment. This enables preventative actions that reduces database incidents by 50% and allows 17% of problems to be identified without DBA intervention.

Oracle Enterprise Manager has enabled Cerner to improve the ROI on its existing IT infrastructure and pursue new business opportunities without incurring incremental IT costs by providing integrated application-to-disk management capabilities for public and private clouds.

Cerner Managed Services senior vice-president Kent Scheuler said with Skybox DB Central utilising Oracle Enterprise Manager, Cerner have been able to eliminate the management and maintenance challenges that would traditionally be associated with introducing a new suite of on-demand infrastructure and software services.

"This has created a sizable new business opportunity for us, while also allowing our clients to benefit from reduced IT costs and increased performance," said Scheuler.
