Century Telephone Enterprises Inc which recently merged with Pacific Telecom Inc for $1.5bn is selling off its undersea cable company and satellite companies Pacific Telecom Cable Inc, and Pacific Telecom Transmission Services Inc, to privately held Delaware-based Neptune Communications Corp, for around $57m in cash. Pac-Tel cable operates a North Pacific undersea cable linking the Northwest mainland US to Alaska and Japan, and Pac- Tel Transmission operates a satellite backup service for the cable.
