Following its acquisition of InfoSpinner Inc (CI No 3,076), Menlo Park, California-based Centura SoftwareCorp has launched ForeSite 2.0, a web integration server that has been designed to put ‘real’ business applications on the Web. The company changed its name from Gupta Corp last year following the discovery that it had to restate all of its financial results for 1993, 1994 and 1995 (CI No 2938) and the departure of co-founder Umang Gupta (CI No 2827). It sees the acquisition of InfoSpinner, which will be fully integrated into Centura by the end of the month, and the launch of ForeSite as a way of putting the past well behind it, enabling the company to concentrate on building up its business. The company claims ForeSite 2.0 will enable customers to migrate legacy systems to the Web in days and integrate with Web technologies such as Java, JavaScript, VB Script, FrontPage and Shockwave. ForeSite consists of four components; Integrator, PageServer, Dispatcher and System Integration Modules. ForeSite Integrator is an application component assembly environment, while the PageServer acts as a high performance Web deployment engine. Dispatcher is a resource manager providing dynamic load balancing and high-availability, with the System Integration Modules operating as a universal interface to legacy mainframe and client-server applications. ForeSite enables applications written in Cobol, PowerBuilder, Visual Basic, and mainframe applications running under MVS with CICS to be fully integrated in to Web applications. It uses standard industry interfaces such as ActiveX and Corba. Centura claims it has covered 62% of the legacy applications that are currently available, which it says is why it is different from other products on the market. ForeSite 2.0 is available on a world wide basis immediately, with prices ranging from $5,000 on an NT system with a single CPU, to $27,000 for the Professional version on a single CPU Unix system.
