CENTRAL POINT ACQUIRES NETWORK MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST XTREE

Central Point Software Inc, Beaverton, Oregon is to acquire San Luis Obispo, California-based XTree Co on undisclosed terms, to add a network management capability its existing anti-virus and software protection oferings. Most operations will be consolidated in Beaverton, although a development centre will be maintained in Irvine, California; it already also has a base in Foster City. It will take on 22 XTree employees, bringing its total to about 300. The firm is now made up of an anti-virus; a back-up; and a network management business unit, making up the network product group; and an MS-DOS, a Macintosh; and a Windows business unit making up the company’s desktop group.
