San Franciso-based Airtouch Communications Inc, which used to be called PacTel Corp, reports that its partner, Central Japan Digital Phone Ltd, has begun commercial service two months ahead of plan: Airtouch has a 13% stake in the company; the cellular operation will initially serve the Tokai region and will expand to cover roughly 90% of the region’s population by the summer of next year.
