Cellnet Mobile Communications Ltd continues to close the yawning gap between its own subscription base and that of Vodafone Group Plc: the company says that during November a record 54,500 customers signed up for its services, bringing the total base of Cellnet subscribers to 837,500; November was also a record month for Vodafone, which achieved gross new connections in of 48,868 with net new connections of 29,382 – half of those on its LowCall service; it is now just shy of the magic million with 999,000 subscribers, which suggests that in 1994, cellular connections in the UK will exceed 2m – although if Mercury Communications Ltd’s One-2-One is included, it’s there now.
