Cellnet Mobile Communications Ltd comes in as the big under- achiever this quarter, reporting only 12,000 new connections over the last three months. It blamed tighter credit controls and new contract terms for the decrease in growth. Orange Plc did rather better, saying the subscriber base for its network rose 109,000 to 894,000, with churn in line with expectations at 19.1% over the past year. One 2 One, the tiddler of the quartet, jointly owned by Cable & Wireless Plc and US West Inc, reported record new connections with 75,000 subscribers added in the quarter, a jump of 114% from this time in 1996. Its total is up to 620,000.
