Celestica Inc continued its unstoppable run of company buy-outs this week with the announcement that it has acquired a share of Hewlett Packard Co’s PC system build business. As well as running HP’s final PC assembly business for North America, the world’s third largest electronics manufacturing company said it planned to establish a new high-volume, build-to-order desktop PC manufacturing and distribution arm in the United States. The news follows a flurry of recent purchases by Celestica. Last week the company purchased Analytic Design, which specializes in engineering design, design for manufacturing review and planning and purchasing. And the week before it bought Silicon Graphics Inc’s Cray printed circuit board operation. This followed the purchase, last year, of ICL Plc’s Design to Distribution Ltd arm (CI No 3,074), Madge Networks’ Token Ring and ATM plant in Dublin in February (CI No 3,354), and Lucent Technologies Inc’s manufacturing facilities in Monterey, Mexico in March (CI 3,339). Celestica said it expects to begin shipments of HP computers in late 1998.
