Celestica Inc continued its recent run of acquisitions with the announcement, yesterday, that it plans to purchase the design and product introduction center of California-based Analytical Design Inc. Under the deal, for an undisclosed sum, the electronics manufacturing giant will also retain the company’s 95 Santa Clara-based employees. Analytic Design specializes in a numerous services including engineering design (printed circuit board layout and documentation), design for manufacturing review, planning and purchasing as well as test and after sales customer service. The news is the latest in a long line of takeover announcements by Celestica Inc this year. Only last week the company acquired Silicon Graphics Inc’s Cray printed circuit board operation for an undisclosed amount (CI No 3,414). All 270 staff, who make circuit boards for SGI’s Cray supercomputers, will transfer to Celestica. This followed the purchase last year of ICL Plc’s Design to Distribution Ltd arm (CI No 3,074), Madge Networks’ Token Ring and ATM plant in Dublin in February (CI No 3,354), and Lucent Technologies Inc’s manufacturing facilities in Monterrey, Mexico in March (CI No 3,339).
