CEC is one of a handful of software houses that are pioneering the marketing of mainframe third-party software from overseas in the Japanese market – it has 43 users of Sync-Sort and 29 of DMS/OS; others on the look out for products to take to Japan include Ashisuto, which has an American president, Bill Totten, and has sold Easytrieve to 206 users, Panvalet to 86, UFO to 57, Focus to 47, and MSA/General Ledger to 15; as a result it has 49% of the market for software from independent mainframe software suppliers, where CEC has just 6%; the one in the market in its own right is Software AG, which has 59 users of A-AUTO and 53 of Adabas.
