Control Data Corp is not going to be too popular with other US companies trying to sell high-tech products to Japan: the ETA-10 supercomputer due to be delivered to the Tokyo Institute of Technology was due to be installed in March, but CDC held it back for further testing of additional CPUs in the machine, and finally delivered it at the end of last month, incurring a $320,000 penalty as a consequence.
