CBR round-up: Three big numbers that shocked us this week

Surveys from Oracle, Gartner and Vodafone contained some surprises.

By CBR Staff Writer

Today was a week of numbers from all corners of the tech world. What were the most surprising?

1. The UK is behind on Cloud…far behind

The UK has some catching up to do. According to a new survey by Oracle, UK enterprises lag significantly in their understanding of the Cloud. Only 21 percent of UK respondents fully understand public cloud platform-as-a-service (Paas), compared to the US at 37 percent, Germany at 43 percent, France at 35 percent) and China at 34 percent.

2. Enterprise application software is big money

The coming years will see all sorts of changes in technology. Global spending on enterprise application software is set to break the $200bn mark by 2019, due to modernisation, functional expansion and digital transformation projects. This is an increase of 7.5 percent annually due to growth in marketing, e-commerce and advance analytics.

3. 4G is a missed opportunity in public sector

Research conducted by YouGov and commissioned by Vodafone has found that the public sector is missing out on the benefits of 4G, with only 8 percent of public sector frontline workers equipped with 4G connectivity. This is due to 42 percent of decision makers not understanding the technology benefits, such as the ability to build a mobile workforce.
