Casio Computer Co Ltd is to team with IBM Japan Ltd to develop a supply chain management (SCM) system for its liquid crystal display (LCD) panel production line. The Japanese firm is one of a number intending to roll out SCM systems this year in an attempt to cut production costs, according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. IBM Japan Ltd will implement an SCM system from this month in its PC division, while Sony Corp will use SCM to streamline its camcorder production line. By 1999, Toshiba Corp intends to implemented an SCM system across its 25 domestic plants. It also intends to reduce product inventories by a half and administrative staff by two-thirds.
