CARSBERG RECOMMENDS INTRODUCTION OF CALL METERING SYSTEMS ON PUBLIC TELEPHONE NETWORKS

By CBR Staff Writer

UK Director General of Telecommunications Bryan Carsberg has recommended the introduction of call metering systems on public telephone networks, with a view to helping staunch the flow of customer complaints and to boost confidence in British Telecom’s billing procedures, which have been criticised in recent months; under the new scheme the British Approvals Board for Telecommunications will grant approval to systems which meet a performance standard and approvals will include all activities involved in billing systems and will extend to any future ones.
