Captaris tightens links with Microsoft apps

Captaris Inc has released an updated component of its namesake Business Information Delivery Suite that enhances workflow processing for its RightFax fax and document delivery applications and Microsoft Corp's Office, Sharepoint (Portal and Services) and, more recently, Visual Studio .NET 2003 systems.

Captaris Workflow 5.0, formerly branded as Teamplate for .NET, tightens up the integration with Microsoft’s 2003 suite of products, including a new user interface and tools for embedding workflow capabilities into SSL portal environments. Version 5 also bundles in 10 new vertical and line-of-business workflow templates and integration with Visual Studio .NET 2003 to construct and debug workflows. Drag and drop development remains within Captaris while coding can take place in Visual C#.NET or .Visual Basic .NET.

One early adopter of the software is AstraZeneca in France which is using the Workflow module to automate internal HR processes. We’re be able to anticipate, up to two weeks, the arrival of a new employee and prepare all of the resources to get them started, said Thierry Zucchi, an external consultant working on the AstaZeneca implementation.

Pricing for a single Workflow server starts at $25,000 and includes integrated development tools. A Wizard-based edition for Sharepoint and RightFax products costs $10,000 per server.

Founded in 1982 and headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, Captaris claims to have installed over 90,000 systems in 95 countries across the world. The company is publicly traded on Nasdaq.
