The service, which will be used during the advertisement-booking process, is aimed at ensuring that addresses are captured and stored correctly to reduce the possibility of invoices going missing in the mail as well as reducing the risk of fraud.

The database will sit alongside the Royal Mail’s Postcode Address File, and will also integrate with the National Business Database, meaning that a partial address or just the postcode is needed to enable a full business address to be displayed. This will result, it is hoped, in the BBC’s database containing a more accurate list of clients and customers.

Mike Pelizzoni, head of advertisement systems at BBC Worldwide, said: Invoices will be received, reducing the problems caused by incorrect addresses or company names. He said that before the deal with Capscan, BBC Magazines had been using an address-management product that only validated residential addresses, which meant there was a significant risk of mis-delivery of invoices.

BBC Magazines’ portfolio includes Top Gear, Good Homes, Radio Times, and Good Food. The company is the publishing arm of BBC Worldwide.
