Motorola Inc says it expects capital spending to rise by 8% this year over 1991’s $1,320m, Christopher Galvin, senior executive vice-president, told an analysts’ meeting; research and development expenditure is likely to rise 11% on the $1,080m spent in 1991; the firm also said that a private equity offering of shares in the Iridium low earth orbit global satellite telephone network project will likely be made by year-end – the company says it will seek 20 founding investors in the project, and will probably retain a stake of only 20% or even less; the Paging and Telepoint Systems Group plans to introduce a 900MHz credit card-size pager within a few weeks – less than 0.25 thick, it will nevertheless include backlighting.
