95.8 Capital FM’s share of all radio listening in London increased to 11.1% (Wave 1 2001: 10.2%) with its reach stable at 28%. The station has 2.8 million adult listeners in London, 1.3 million more listeners than the nearest commercial competitor. Chris Tarrant’s show, which recorded 1.8 million adult listeners, is the number one commercial breakfast show. Tarrant, who has recently renewed his contract until December 2003, has increased his breakfast show’s share to 12.6%.

Xfm achieved a record reach of 494,000 listeners (Wave 1 2001: 462,000) and climbed to a record share of 1.7% of all radio listening (Wave 1 2001: 1.3%). When combined with Capital Gold and 95.8 Capital FM, this result contributed to Capital Radio London’s share total increasing to 16.2% (Wave 1 2001: 15.8%).

The Capital Radio group has grown strongly, both in reach and share of all radio listening, with the recently acquired Beat 106 scoring a record reach of 18% ( Wave 1 2001: 17%) and share of 8.9% ( Wave 1 2001: 8.0%). The Century FM Network achieved a record reach of 1,514,000 (Wave 1 2001: 1,468,000) and a rise in share to 6.5% (Wave 1 2001: 6.4%).
