Cap Gemini SA the Services Company has launched Omilio, a billing package designed to help telecommunications companies implement inter-operator call charging. Cap Gemini claims the current lack of any reliable way of calculating these inter-operator payments has been inhibiting the growth of liberalized telecommunications markets. The Omilio package consists of software that captures information from a telecoms switch, and then passes it to a mainframe or Unix server running an Oracle Corp database, which is then queried by the Omilio software and translated into billing and accounting records in an operators accounting system. Cap Gemini believes there is a huge potential market for the product as the world’s telecommunications companies move towards de-regulation. The Omilio system is the result of a Cap Gemini project for the private Swedish telecommunications firm Tele2 AG, whose version has additional features. Omilio is available in the UK now, and will be available in the rest of Europe and the US in September.
