Cap Gemini Sogeti SA, which claims to be Europe’s largest computer services and business consultancy company, plans a huge expansion in the UK and will recruit 2,500 people over the next year to boost its present workforce of almost 7,000. This recruitment target excludes 660 people who will join the company as a result of the 600m pound outsourcing contract secured from the British Steel Corporation at the end of last year. Cap Gemini boosted revenues in the UK by 49% in 1997 to 409.4m pounds and increased net profit by 51.6 percent to 37.9m pounds. With outsourcing booming in the UK, the company says it won new business worth 1bn pounds in 1997.
