Candle Corp proudly announced two new export licenses for its MQSecure security tool for IBM MQSeries applications. Candle says its been cleared by the US Department of Commerce to export a new 56-bit version worldwide – as opposed to just the US and Canada. It also received permission to begin shipping its 128-bit version of the product to banks anywhere in the world. In addition to the export licenses, Candle has extended MQSecure platform support to include Windows NT and HP-UX. When the product was released nearly a year ago (CI No 3,183), it only provided support for Windows 3.x, OS/2, AIX and MVS. Candle boasts that MQSecure makes it the only real player in the market for MQSeries security. Barry Ader, product manager for MQSecure, stresses the fact that the DOC clearance should mean a lot to the top line, as Candle derives upwards of 40% of its revenues from outside the US. Ader also gave June 26 as the date for IBM to begin bundling the ControlCenter administration tools package with MQ series (CI No 3,350). Candle is currently the only outfit that IBM has agreed to such a deal with for MQSeries. Although MQSecure is not part of that arrangement, and a bundling deal for it does not appear likely any time soon, the deal should help sales of MQSecure at least in the sense that Candle can more easily keep track of every new MQSeries customer and use that information for sales leads. All of these developments, Ader says, should enable Candle to achieve its goal of $55m in sales for messaging middleware products this year, a big jump from some $20m last year. Candle is licking its lips at the prospect of a messaging middleware market that is expected to be worth $700m-$750m by 2000, especially with MQSeries accounting for about half of that total. In other news, Ader promises that within the next two weeks Candle will announce that CommandCenter will be available for AS/400, giving it support for all major platforms.
