Candle Corp, Santa Monica, California today announced a four-part, multi-million dollar contract with MCI Telecommunications Corp that includes its Command Center management software, which is expected to support OS/2 and AIX in July. Under the three year contract, Candle will equip MCI to manage several mainframes and thousands of distributed servers. Candle says its Command Center for Distributed Systems software was the most expensive aspect of the deal and the area where it competed against 27 vendors in an RFP. Candle beat out Computer Associates International, Landmark Systems Corp and Compagnie des Machines Bull SA to provide mainframes and convinced MCI to switch monitor vendors as well. Candle will also provide mainframe-based Command Center Sysplex and CICS systems. Candle said MCI still buys from a number of vendors, but that the contract proves it wants Candle as a long-term partner, in part because of its strong, integrated toolkit. Candle says it expects to announce more large contract awards involving Command Center this summer.
