CANADIAN-OWNED NEWCOMER CLAIMS 1Gb 2.5″ DISK DRIVE

By CBR Staff Writer

A newcomer to the small form factor disk drive business, Data Storage International Inc, has thrown down the gauntlet to the majors in the business by completing design of the first 2.5 drive to store 1Gb. The company says pre-production samples will be shipped to customers in three weeks for further testing, and full production is expected to begin in June; orders will be accepted on a letter of credit basis within 30 days. Data Storage is a subsidiary of diversified Delmay Energy Corp of Vancouver, British Columbia. Data Storage is building a 50,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Hallstahammar, Vasteras, Sweden. Its technology was developed by another Delmay company, Uniax Corp, which has developed a manufacturing process that eliminates the need for solder in production of electronic devices. Delmay’s main business is the exploration and exploitation of natural gas fields, and transmission of recovered gas in the US.
