The MediAR+ patient billing and accounts receivable platform, from healthcare IT firm MediSolution, was employed to facilitate the process of sending health claim related bills.

As part of the implementation, the product’s interface was adapted to provide direct electronic data interchange (EDI) access to eBusiness company Emergis’ Health Claim Management for Workers’ Compensation program, which provides bill processing and payment for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) of Ontario. The aim is to allow hospital billing administrators to electronically route their claim related bills to WSIB via Emergis, without having to print on multiple WSIB forms.

In addition, the companies said, using the Emergis Health Provider Portal will provide the hospital with access to a web application that allows them to view the status of all submitted bills at any time.

We were able to reduce costs by switching to electronic claims processing, and that frees up resources to serve our patients in other ways, said Ed Ziesmann, program director at St. John’s Rehab. With these new tools St. John’s Rehab has less paperwork and our cash flow from WSIB has improved. We set up the new EDI interface in June of this year and already we submit more than 95% of our bills to WSIB electronically.

MediSolution expects that by the end of 2005 all clients will be sending claims to WSIB through the new MediAR+ interface.
