Acorn Computer Group co-founder Hermann Hauser who recently started the Amadeus 1 venture capital fund for technology companies is pleased with all the high-tech publicity that the UK city of Cambridge has been getting recently. On money-raising trips to the US he no longer has to explain that there is another university town called Cambridge which doesn’t live side-by-side with Boston. Hauser won $7.5m funding from Microsoft Corp as part of the same investment stream that saw Redmond invest $80m in its first overseas research and development unit in Cambridge, UK – which will collaborate closely with Cambridge University (CI No 3,173) – and set aside a further $8.5m for other Cambridge area technology firms. Sony Corp’s also buying a presence in the are with the acquisition of CyberLife Technology Ltd’s Millennium Interactive gaming subsidiary (CI No 3,201).
