Under the arrangement Lucent will develop location-determination platforms by integrating CPS’s Cursor technology into network infrastructure products, expanding current location-based services portfolio.

Lucent has already demonstrated its leadership in the field of intelligent networks, value-added services and billing systems, said Rene van der Hulst, GSM product management vice president in a press statement. This agreement with CPS will allow us to leverage the benefits of CPS’ high-accuracy mobile-positioning information and offer true ‘end-to-end’ location-based services for the GSM standard, including General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and EDGE, the Enhanced Data for Global Evolution technology.

Chris Wade CEO of CPS, commented, We are delighted that Lucent Technologies has chosen to work with CPS. Over the past year, CPS has made a significant impact in the US market, with many key players within the telecoms field choosing to work with us. The E-OTD system is now the preferred choice of GSM mobile operators for compliance with the impending US emergency services legislation, and CPS’ Cursor technology is accepted as the leading E-OTD solution in GSM markets. Additionally, this alliance between Lucent and CPS will provide opportunities for operators to enhance revenues, differentiate their services and reduce customer churn.
