It has now been made clear that Cambex Corp was being decidedly over-optimistic when it said that the $5.9m of IBM memory it was paying for to make good machines leased from IBM Credit Corp that it had upgraded with its own memory was for the benefit of Cambex: IBM’s policy is that it will not sublease anything to a vendor to the trade and while the customers into whose machines the memory will go when they come off lease can sublease the memory in the meantime, the best that Cambex can hope for is to bring such customers together with would-be sub-lessors and take an arrangement fee for setting up the introduction; the amount it would make means that it would be scarcely worth the effort, so in effect Cambex is down by $5.9m on the settlement or something very close.
