Alliant Computer Systems UK Ltd, Camberley, Surrey, says the California Institute of Technology, Caltech, Concurrent Supercomputing Consortium has installed an FX/800 supercomputer as a high-performance file server for the consortium’s Intel Corp Touchstone Delta limited production massively parallel system; the two systems are connected via two 100Mbps HIPPI input-output channels; the initial configuration of the FX/800 file server includes a RAID 3 disk array with 10.8Gb of on-line disk storage and two Metrum RSP-2150 helical-scan tape drives with a capacity of up to 14.5Gb each; the server is also configured with 256Mb main memory, three RISC processors, two HIPPI channels and two 25Mbps VME channels; expansion plans include additional disk array storage and upgrade of the Metrum tape drives.
