On average, 12% is added to the consumers’ monthly mobile phone bill. The CTIA listed the ten most heavily mobile-taxed states. Californian taxes were the highest coming in at 19.6%, whilst users in Pennsylvania, tenth most expensive, paid 11.8% tax.
To make matters worse for city-dwelling mobile users, the federal government is thinking about subsidizing rural telecoms companies with funds raised by increasing hidden mobile taxes further.
