California State University at San Marcos reckons to be the first university under construction in the US in nearly two decades, and it promises to create a model educational community of the 21st century through the benefits of advanced fibre optic technology: it has signed a business agreement with Northern Telecom Ltd and Pacific Telesis Group Inc’s Pacific Bell to implement an Advanced Telecommunications Platform for creating new telecommunications applications for higher education; the project will include linking Northern Telecom’s newest telephone exchange, the S/DMS SuperNode, to the San Marcos campus with several of the Canadian’s fibre optic S/DMS AccessNodes.
