Apple Computer Inc and Tandem Computers Inc have been railroaded into a collaboration by the State of California Department of Commerce’s Competitive Technology Programme at the Teale Data Center, Sacramento. The state has got the pair to sign an agreement to co-operate in meeting its civic information management needs. The project is to develop a Macintosh front end to Tandem NonStop systems running the Personnel Management Information System at the Data Center, whose director reckons that the project offers an ideal test bed for interoperability of Apple and Tandem products, a real-life working environment as opposed to simulated test parameters, adding that it provides the firms a better edge in marketing the resulting technology.
