California State University deploys HP P6000 Enterprise Virtual Arrays

Increases the university storage utilisation by as much as 50%

By CBR Staff Writer

California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) has selected HP P6000 Enterprise Virtual Arrays (EVA) to deliver around-the-clock data access to its students and faculty, as well as increased storage capacity in support of scholastic research applications.

With the HP P6000 EVA, based on HP Converged Infrastructure, CSUMB consolidates application data to reduce administration time and total cost of ownership, while increasing the university’s storage utilisation by as much as 50% as it virtualises data across disparate departments.

The midrange HP P6000 EVA provides CSUMB with improved return on investment by reducing maintenance and administration time and improves disaster recovery services by moving storage from one array to another while maintaining valuable data in the event of a failure.

In addition, the university enhances its business efficiencies with integration into existing business applications and VMware virtual server environments, reduces carbon footprint and lowers energy usage by 40%, with twice the enterprise capacity in the same rack space versus previous generations of the EVA.

HP Americas Storage vice president Chris Riley said public universities struggle with managing increasing data growth on flat or decreasing IT budgets.

"The HP P6000 EVA’s simplicity, scalability and cost efficiencies allow CSUMB to affordably upgrade its data center with the latest virtualization functionalities while minimizing future investments," said Riley.

California State University, Monterey Bay Network Services associate director Steve Mann said CSUMB professors and staff need information access around the clock.

"The scalability of the HP P6000 EVA will enable us to cost-effectively support the capacity demands generated by our current and future graduating classes," said Mann.
