CalAmp, a provider of wireless products, services and solutions, has announced that its 882-EVDO ruggedized cellular data modem and IP router is certified for operation on the Sprint Nextel cellular data network.

According to CalAmp, the 882-EVDO is used to establish reliable data or internet connectivity at 3G speeds and is targeted at a variety of mobile, portable and fixed wireless applications including WAN connections to advanced metering infrastructure collectors, programmable logic controllers, remote terminal units, electronic flow meters and more bandwidth intensive applications such as video.

CalAmp claims that its 882-EVDO offers an integrated dynamic host configuration protocol server, port forwarding and port mapping capabilities providing wireless data connectivity through public cellular networks. It can also be deployed for industrial data communication applications requiring TCP/IP connectivity.

Rick Nozel, senior vice president of sales and marketing for wireless networks business at CalAmp, said: We are pleased to announce the certification of our 882-EVDO for use on the Sprint Nextel 3G cellular network. We are excited about the commercial potential for the 882-EVDO, as it brings 3G speeds to critical applications in the AMI and smart grid marketplace as well as a variety of other SCADA and telemetry applications in the industrial monitoring and controls industry.
