CalAmp, a provider of wireless products and services, has released its Dataradio Sentry 4G wireless IP router, a new rugged broadband communications and networking platform designed to support both mobile and fixed devices on a common infrastructure.

According to the company, the Sentry 4G is ideally suited for wide area coverage and bandwidth-intensive applications with data transmission speeds of up to 6Mbps. Initially released for use in the 900MHz ISM band, applications include smart grid communications, streaming video, mobile data, high speed SCADA/Telemetry, fleet management, video surveillance and a host of other mission critical applications.

CalAmp has said that Sentry 4G provides high-speed, long-range broadband wireless connectivity based on industrial grade IEEE 802.16e-2005 (mobile WiMAX) technology and also supports an embedded Wi-Fi module.

Rick Nozel, senior vice president of sales and marketing for CalAmp’s wireless networks business, said: Combined with our industry leading licensed narrowband and cellular based products, the Sentry 4G gives our customers no reason to look any further when seeking reliable wireless data communications. The Sentry 4G is the first product in its class to deliver on the promise of converged networks.
