Oxnard, California-based CalAmp said it was acquiring privately held Dataradio to increase its presence in the public safety and M2M markets. With a staff of 175 at sites in Canada and the US, Montreal-based Dataradio sells into public safety organizations, utilities, local government, water management and similar areas, offering mobile data systems, radio modems, analog radios and telemetry devices. It had revenue of around $32m in the year ending April 30.
CalaAmp CEO Fred Sturm commented that Once combined with CalAmp’s existing businesses that provide wireless products and solutions for M2M and public safety applications, we expect our data communications business will have an annual revenue run rate in excess of $60 million.
