There has been rather wild gossip in some quarters that high-level talks presaged a merger between Microsoft Corp and Computer Associates International Inc, even thought it’s hard to see why either would want the other: anyway Computer Associates president Charles Wang told our sister paper Unigram.X last week that there was no factual basis to rumours that merger was discussed in his recent round of marathon talks with Microsoft chief Bill Gates, or that the pair decided during their reported 12-hour chat that the omens weren’t favourable because the US Federal Trade Commission was watching every move Microsoft makes – more likely he likes having a job to go to.
