Caere Corp, Los Gatos, California is shipping the 2.0 release of the OmniPage page recognition application for the Apple Macintosh at $800, and the company is promising an $900 software only version for 80386-based micros and a version with a co-processor board for all other MS-DOS computers at $2,500; the 2.0 release recognises European characters and pages in landscape mode, enabling personal computers to recognise text from virtually any scanned document, regardless of the page’s number of columns, types of fonts, use of bold and italic text and mix of headlines, graphics and captions, enabling the text to be saved and used in many word-processing, spreadsheet, database or desktop-publishing file formats.
