It’s comes as a bit of a shock when you go out and buy a business, and then the regulators discover something nasty in the woodshed that dates back to long before you bought it: simulator builder CAE Industries Ltd of Toronto has agreed to pay $55.9m to settle a claim by the US government over alleged overcharging on contracts by its CAE-Link subsidiary between 1983 and 1988; CAE did not admit liability; the vendor of the Link business, BiCoastal Inc will pay $33.4m of the total penalty; the US had claimed $231m in the action.
