Rochester, New Hampshire-based Cabletron Systems Inc has unveiled a suite of products for end-to-end SNA to local to wide area network communications and management. The announcement marks the second phase of a programme that began last month with the introduction of Token Ring modules for the Multi Media Access Centre – MMAC – and MMAC-Plus hubs (CI No 2,533). First up is the local area network to Channel Attachment Module-Bus and Tag Channel, a hub module to provide a direct channel attachment to an IBM Corp or compatible mainframe. The module functions as a local area network interconnect control unit providing Bus and Tag Block multiplexer Channel Attachment to the mainframe for users on Ethernet and Token Ring networks, says the company. An additional option enables the module to function as a NetWare for Systems Application Architecture server, providing direct mainframe access for personal computer and workstation clients. The Local Area Network to Channel Attachment Module-ES is a similar offering, functioning as a local area network interconnect control unit providing Escon Channel attachment to the mainframe for users on Ethernet and Token Ring. The 3174MIM, Media Interface Module, is an Establishment Controller said to enable 3270 terminals to connect directly to the MMAC. Developed with IBM Corp, the module can operate as a controller for direct co-axial attachment of 3270 displays and printers, with access to the host provided through Token Ring, Synchronous Data Link Control or X25 links. Pricing and shipping details to be announced.
