Cabletron Systems Inc in Rochester, New Hampshire has announced its own technology for running Fibre Distributed Data Interface networks over twisted pair copper cabling: according to Forrester Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the average per-port cost for FDDI including fibre optic adaptors, cables, hubs and connectors is $11,650; the firm estimates this figure will drop to $2,000 by 1994, but Cabletron expects it will drop even further if a twisted pair FDDI standard is approved in the interim.
