CABLETRON ADDS FRAME RELAY MANAGEMENT TO SPECTRUM SOFTWARE

By CBR Staff Writer

Cabletron Systems Inc has added Frame Relay management to its Spectrum network management software. Spectrum Frame Relay Manager is an integrated, scaleable frame relay management package primarily targeted at Internet service providers, says the company. The new product enables monitoring of frame relay circuit bandwidth usage and costs with the use of detailed circuit-level reports about bandwidth use, line congestion and performance monitoring. There is also the ability to customize reports to show real-time information at specified time intervals. The Spectrum Frame Relay Manager builds a topology view of all frame relay interfaces and their individual circuits. This information is integrated within Spectrum’s broad view of network systems, and application devices. It can manage any FRAD Frame Relay Access Device, that supports the standard IETF Internet Engineering Task Force frame relay MIB Management Interface Base for SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol data collection. The Frame Relay Manager is due to be released during the second quarter of this year, and will be available on Spectrum 4.0. In addition, Cabletron has also unveiled a new SmartSwitch module for its MMAC-Plus range of high-end switching systems. The SmartSwitch 9H423-28 integrates Fast Ethernet and Ethernet connections and is targeted at providing high- performance, reliable connections for high-density switched Ethernet workgroups, says the company. It has 24 ports of switched Ethernet and four ports of Fast Ethernet connections. Management is through Cabletron’s Spectrum for Open Systems, and delivers advanced per-port RMON remote monitoring management and broadcast storm protection. The switch ships now for $24,000.
