CABLES, 10 OTHER FOREIGNERS MAY JOIN ALL-JAPANESE TELECOM CONSORTIUM

The jockeying for position among the consortia bidding for the international telecommunications franchise in Japan took a new twist last week when Cable & Wireless Plc, Deutsche Bank, Ford Motor Co, CitiCorp and six other US and European companies indicated an interest in joining the presently all-Japanese International Telecommunications Japan, ITJ, consortium. While the Cables-C Itoh International Digital Communications wants to build its own facilities, ITJ would just lease existing lines.
