Cable & Wireless Plc, US West Inc and Veba AG are among the members of the consortium led by construction group Bouygues SA that has won the contract to build and operate the third French cellular telephone network. The consortium gets a four-year monopoly on the 1,800MHz frequency in five major towns, and the licence runs for 15 years. Others in the consortium are municipal contractor Jean-Claude Decaux SA, Banque Nationale de Paris, and Compagnie Financiere de Paribas.
