Cable & Wireless Hong Kong is to provide Istel Ltd’s electronic data interchange service, Edict, in the Crown Colony from April this year. Using a Mercury Communications Ltd link to the UK to access customers, it will target UK retailers who source goods from Hong Kong. Cables’ Hong Kong unit will also establish an organisation similar to Istel’s EDI Services Division. Istel plans to offer Edict software internationally, and already has an agreement with Electronic Data Systems to offer electronic data interchange services to General Motors Corp suppliers in Europe.
