Cable & Wireless Plc finally put an end to the protracted saga of its new chief executive yesterday and appointed Richard Brown, who is currently president and chief executive of H&R Block Inc. Before that he was vice-chairman of Ameritech Inc, having run the Illinois Bell subsidiary until 1993. He has 27 years of experience in telecommunications, including involvement in corporate and regulatory issues, and is a communications science graduate from Ohio University. Rod Olsen, who has been acting chief executive, becomes Brown’s deputy and will have special responsibility for the group’s substantial interests in the Asia Pacific region. Brown takes up the post on July 1.
