CABLE & WIRELESS TALKS TO TELEWEST

After months of frantic consolidation in the UK cable market, the UK’s two largest cable groups, Telewest Communications Plc and Cable & Wireless Communications Plc, are engaged in talks which could lead to a full scale merger. Telewest’s Chairman, Fred Vierra, admitted in comments to The Times that his company had failed to gain a strong brand name in the cable market, which he sees as essential for market penetration. Current talks with CWC center on how the two can join forces in branding, promotion and advertising but said Vierra, We cannot rule out a full merger as a possibility down the road.
