Cable & Wireless Plc has confirmed that it will invest about ú10m to take 5% stakes in each of the nine regional companies set up by Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp to build and operate Personal Handy Phone enhanced Telepoint systems around Japan. The digital system enables users of the pocket phones to make as well as receive calls, but they need to be still and near a base-station. The networks are scheduled to begin operating this July in the Tokyo region and on the northern island of Hokkaido, and in October in the remaining seven areas.
